A collection of activities called Elementary Games for Elementary Students, has been created to aid the physical education teachers at the Ile-Bizarre Elementary School situated in the center of the middle-upper class section of Ile-Bizarre. Elementary Games for Elementary Students was created with the intention to aid teachers in the process of developing the cognitive, psychomotor and affective levels of their students in more creative and enjoyable ways. With about 20-25 students in a single class, instructors must always be on their toes and coming up with new fun ideas.

The collection of games has been divided in seven specific categories that help students develop different physical and cooperative skills depending on the objectives of their instructors. Each category has approximately eight games that aim towards a specific goal. Elementary Games for Elementary Students is based on the Quebec Education Program (QEP), which is basically the guidelines teachers in Quebec are obliged to follow. The QEP has a separate section for physical education, this section is broken into three competencies. Competency one focuses on individual skills, competency two focuses on cooperative skills and finally competency three focuses on educating students on how to continue physical activity after they have finished school.
  • Fundamental Movement: This category of games is meant to develop individual skills and movements of students within cycle 1 and 2 which are the youngest grades excluding the kindergarden level students. This categories games are based on competency one.

  • Cooperative: These games are meant to develop the cooperative skills of students between the cycles of 1 and 3. These games are non competitive because the objective is solely to increase positive cooperation and communication amongst the students. This category is based on competency two.

  • Pursuit and Evade: Much like cooperative games, this category aims to improve the communication skills of students while adding a small competitive edge. Games in this category mainly consist of tag type games. This categories games are also based on competency two.

  • Territorial: This category focuses on team type games that has students compete positively against each other. Not only does this category improve students‘ communication skills but also their ability to create strategies together and apply them to the activity. This categories games are also based on competency two.

  • Net and Wall: This is more of a specific category that focuses on games such as tennis, badminton, and volleyball. This categories games are also based on competency two but the QEP may also place some of these games under competency one.

  • Striking and Fielding: Much like net and wall games, this category is more specific to games such as baseball. This category is a little controversial when it comes to placing it in a specific competency, some may say it falls under competency one and some say competency two. It all depends on the objectives set by the instructor.

  • Special: These are theme or holiday based games that can potentially have a developmental objective but for the most part they are just for fun. This category may fall under either competency one or two.

Competency three is incorporated into each activity and each unit plan. An instructor may decide to take some time out of their activities to sit down with their students and explain the importance of healthy living. Elementary students are the leaders of tomorrow. By using Elementary Games for Elementary Students, teachers can use fun, new, and innovative ways to get their students on the path to adopting a successfully healthy and active lifestyle.
